The J&K Waqf Board is a statutory body entrusted with the administration, management and preservation of Waqf properties and institutions across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Rooted in the noble principles of charity, public welfare and community service, the Board is committed to safeguarding the rich religious, spiritual and cultural heritage associated with Waqf institutions while ensuring their efficient and transparent governance.
The Board administers and supervises an extensive network of shrines, mosques, graveyards, educational institutions, orchards and commercial assets spread across J&K. These institutions have, for generations, served as centres of faith, learning and social welfare, catering to the spiritual and socio-economic needs of the people.
Following the constitution of the present Board in the year 2022, under the guidance and leadership of the present Hon'ble Chairperson, a comprehensive programme of institutional reforms and modernization was initiated with the objective of strengthening governance, enhancing transparency and improving public service delivery. The Board has undertaken several landmark initiatives aimed at the scientific management of Waqf assets and the preservation of religious institutions.
Among the major achievements of the Board are infrastructure development, restoration and upgradation of shrines, mosques and other religious institutions. the large-scale survey, geo-tagging and digitization of Waqf properties; the introduction of e-governance mechanisms; implementation of e-office systems; modernization of financial and administrative processes; strengthening of revenue management; and the formulation of policies to ensure the optimal utilization of Waqf resources for the benefit of society.
Furthermore, numerous developmental works, including renovation projects, public utility infrastructure, beautification initiatives and pilgrim facilities, have been undertaken across the Union Territory.
In the field of education, the Board administers a network of schools and a nursing college dedicated to providing quality education while preserving the region's cultural and moral values. Various initiatives have been introduced to improve educational infrastructure, academic standards and institutional management.
The J&K Waqf Board remains committed to transparency, accountability and public welfare. Through the adoption of technology, efficient administration and community-centric policies, the Board continues to strive towards preserving the sanctity of Waqf institutions and ensuring that their resources are utilized for the collective good of society.
